Plate flanges have a serrated finish on the inner mating surface allowing the plate to fit within the material of the gasket. Because of their lower initial cost, they are favored over other flanges by many consumers, but the final installation cost is possibly not much less than that of the other flanges due to the additional welding involved.

How to Install a Slip on Flange

Slip on flanges usually “slip” over a pipe and are welded in place. This allows the flanges to swivel freely to easily align bolt holes prior to installing and welding in place
