Conductive Cross Arm
1. Product Overview
Conductive cross arm, also named electrode conductive arm, is the
core key component of electrode lifting system for submerged arc
furnaces, ferroalloy furnaces, industrial silicon furnaces, calcium
carbide furnaces and closed refining furnaces. It integrates two
core functions: electrode mechanical support & large-current power
transmission, connecting water-cooled cables on one end and
electrode clamps on the other end.
Traditional separated short-net structure adopts independent
conductive copper tubes plus steel support beams, featuring complex
layout, many insulation parts, high circuit impedance, severe heat
generation and large power loss. Our integrated water-cooled
conductive cross arm adopts copper-steel composite or
aluminum-steel composite hollow box structure with built-in
circulating cooling water channels. It cancels numerous
intermediate conductive and insulating parts, greatly shortens
conductive path, reduces skin effect and impedance loss, stabilizes
arc operation, and significantly cuts smelting power consumption.
It is widely matched with 6,300kVA–63,000kVA full-series
metallurgical electric furnaces, the core upgrade part for
short-network energy-saving transformation of smelting enterprises.

3. Core Structure & Working Principle
The whole conductive cross arm consists of five core assemblies:
composite conductive arm body, internal circulating water cooling
channel, rear conductive transition plate, front electrode clamp
connecting end and insulated support base.
- Composite Conductive Arm Body
Adopts copper/aluminum-steel double-layer composite plate. The
copper/aluminum layer undertakes large-current conduction, while
the steel layer provides mechanical bearing strength. Hollow
rectangular box structure optimizes current distribution and
suppresses skin effect. - Closed Circulating Water Cooling Channel
Independent separated labyrinth water channel design eliminates
local dead water overheating. Cooling water circulates inside the
arm body to continuously take away joule heat generated by high
current, keeping arm surface temperature below safe limit, avoiding
insulation aging and thermal deformation. - Rear Conductive Transition Plate
Integrally welded thick copper plate, directly connected with
water-cooled cable terminals, large contact area, uniform current
distribution and extremely low contact resistance. - Front Clamp Connection End
Precision machined mounting surface matched with electrode holder,
reliable locking structure, stable clamping force to prevent
electrode offset and arc shaking. - Insulated Support Base
High-temperature resistant integral insulation blocks isolate the
charged cross arm from the electrode lifting stand column,
eliminating electric leakage and short-circuit risks of the whole
lifting system.
4. Core Product Advantages
4.1 Low Impedance & Significant Energy Saving
Integrated conductive structure shortens current transmission path,
removes redundant intermediate copper tubes and insulating parts,
effectively weakens skin effect, reduces short-network impedance by
30%–50%. Smelting power consumption decreases obviously under
long-term full-load operation, bringing remarkable economic
benefits.
4.2 High Structural Rigidity & Stable Smelting Condition
Hollow box composite structure features strong bending resistance
and anti-vibration performance. Electrode lifting & lowering runs
smoothly without severe shaking, arc burning is stable, furnace
temperature field uniform, alloy composition fluctuation reduced,
finished product yield improved.
4.3 Integrated Water Cooling, Long Service Life
Full-surround internal forced water cooling controls overall
temperature rise of cross arm, avoids local overheating burnout of
conductive layer. Wear-resistant and anti-oxidation surface
treatment, service life far longer than traditional separated
conductive beam structure, reducing frequent replacement downtime
loss.
4.4 Simplified Short-Net Layout, Lower Maintenance Cost
Cancel complex intermediate conductive components, fewer connecting
flanges and sealing points; modular split structure allows partial
disassembly and replacement without removing the whole cross arm,
daily inspection and maintenance more convenient, fewer spare parts
consumption.
4.5 Lightweight Design, Small Lifting Load
Aluminum-steel composite model greatly reduces self-weight, lowers
output power demand of electrode hydraulic lifting cylinder,
prolongs service life of hydraulic station and lifting mechanical
parts.
4.6 Safe & Reliable Multi-Layer Protection
Equipped with high-performance insulation assembly between cross
arm and lifting frame to prevent electric leakage; optional online
water temperature & flow monitoring module, automatic alarm when
water cut-off or overheating occurs, effectively avoid equipment
burnout accidents.
